Cards On The Table

Don't get cross with the Celtic cross!

Here's a simple getting you started on what to say and how to lay out the cards for a reading.

1. Have your own 'ritual' when starting up. For example, shuffle the cards yourself, give them to the person you are doing a reading on (at the same time quietly thank the cards for helping), allow the client to shuffle as much as they feel they need to before giving them back for you to spread out.

2. Lay the cards out in the number order shown in the picture 1 through to 10. You can lay them face up (beginners) or face down (yes you can do a reading even without looking at the cards but merely on how they fall on the table) and gradually turn them over - card number 2 overlays card number 1 - to reveal your story saving number 10 until last. (or perhaps No.7 see below).

3. A simple guide for what to say for each position - and then describe the card (see previous posts for meanings).

Read cards 1 and 2 together. They represent the hub of the matter. What is going on now and what is most important for the client whether they know it or not.

This is probably the most difficult part of the read....intuition comes in really handy here:

One of the cards may be more powerful or have a 'hold ' over the other. Put the two meanings together. You may get two pip cards, e.g a 4 and a 5 that mean the client is in between the two situations. There maybe a court card - a personality that the client is 'acting in the manner of' or even someone controlling them, or major card or two meaning 'in the lap of the Gods'.

Start by saying " You are in the position of....(and describe cards)"

The following order of the reading is just to get you started, you may choose or find it more comfortable to look at the whole picture...

Are the mainly majors or minor cards in the spread?

Does one suit predominate or is a suit noticeable by it's absence?

...or jump about from past to future - it's up to you.

Card number 4 represents how the client thinks about the past. This is perceived and not real.

..." You felt/did/had/thought ...and then describe the card."

Why felt/did/had/thought??? Felt - cups card (emotion); did - wands (action) had - disks (material); thought - swords (thought).

Mix it with card number 6 which represents others (one or more if major) past and this is real.

...."Other(s) felt/did/had/thought and then describe the card."

Card number 5 represents other(s) future and it is real.

"....Other(s) will do (wands)/think or say (swords)/feel (cups)/have (disks) and then describe the card."

Card number 3 represents the client's best possible outcome of the situation. Perception not real.

What if it is a horrible card e.g Moon - poor soul then must be depressed about it, or a good card e.g 9 cups - happiness? You need to look at card 10 to see if expectations are too high or too low.

Say" You expect...and then describe the card."

Card number 8 represents the environment or how they appear to others if it is a court card.

"...in your environment/around you or you appear as (court card) to others."

Card number 9 represents hopes and fears (yes both).

"...You hope that (and describe card in it's best light) yet fear that (and describe card in it's worst light)".

Card number 10 represents the final outcome to the situation it's real but it could be a turning point where another situation starts! So, if it is in a different vein to the whole read, that's what it is and as such makes the rest of it irrelevant!!!

"...The end of this situation is...(and describe card)."

Finally:

Card number 7 gives you a clue to what the client feels about the reading after you have finished...happy or sad? "You feel etc that this read will..." and then describe the card. (Or you may not want to!)

Note: there are only 10 cards in the spread if there are more than 4 major cards especially in 'real' positions then the client is literally ' in the lap of the Gods' they have many choices to make or see what falls into their lap it is then up to them to do something with it.

30/08/11: edited the order of the spread and what text follows so it does exactly what I do! (How did I make that error - thanks to a friend pointing that one out). You can lay them out as you wish but my advice is to stick to what
you are comfortable with. The main thing is, whatever spread you do - keep to the meanings of the positions you have previously ascribed.

Why future/past?

North and South are the personal cards, east and west are the shared/others cards.

North - thinking ahead (future expectations)

South - where you have been (or thought you have been)

West - where the Sun sets - it's been and done, the real past for others, goodnight.

East - where the Sun rises - a new day - the real future for others. Good morning!

Just a quickie - if you were facing North, what would be on your right hand?

Some smart Alec said "fingers".

I say the Sunrise.

Good luck!

Scrying Eye Eye Eye Getting the Picture?

Scrying, fortune telling by looking into a crystal ball, water pool or anything shiny.

If you look into the Scrying vessel you will only see a physical refection. You need to use your 3rd eye to get the picture. Stare, let you mind go blank and literally ‘see’ what pops in.

Easier said than done.

Eau Dear Rose

Consider the rose in full bloom – often gifts of love and affection for ones nearest and dearest. And the rose bud with its powerful, yet innocent promise of blossoming still to come.
Rose oil, uplifting, comforting, cleansing. A drop or two worth more for self esteem than a whole bunch of flowers.
So when you feel more uplifted, cleansed and comforted you are more likely to attract your wish.
It is interesting that Culpepper prescribed rose water for people of a ‘costive habit’. He of course meant constipation. In modern terms - ‘tight arse’ (please forgive this expression but I feel it makes the point) reflects the sentiment both on the physical and emotional levels. So keep those vases full! Else....
