On Wednesday 9th March, there is a new moon. It is not an ordinary new Moon as
it is also a total solar eclipse.
This is when the orbit of the moon gets in the way of sunshine coming in
our direction.
Anyone remembering the eclipse of 1999 may recall that the sky goes dark, it feels
cold, and the birds stop singing.
Quite
daunting yet very awe inspiring.
This year, we will not be able to see it in the UK as it occurs at around 1.55
am, the middle of the night. But we may feel it's effects which are said
to last the year ...
The
astrological power of any new moon enables us to make a start on something.
After all, the moon is making a start on its new cycle and we, like everything
else in the universe, dance to the same tune. (By that I mean follow the universal
laws that give us life and everything we have and are).
With
a Solar eclipse, it is the moon’s turn to make the Sun go through the same
thing as she does regularly.
First
the moon darkens the right side of the sun which then appears to “grow old”
like a rapid trip through the lunar phases. When the eclipse is at totality
(fully dark), it is as if the sun had become a new moon.
It’s
the Moon’s chance to say to the Sun “see how you like it!”
We
can only commonly see the new moon a couple of days after it’s newness when, if
you are lucky enough, you can see a sliver of the silver crescent – and that
depends on cloud cover!
Eclipses
are different as it is our rare chance
to witness the new Moon as it
happens. (Oh please do not look directly at the Sun but do check out the
options for beholding this event safely).
As
the moon’s transit progresses, the Sun appears to become like the crescent
of a new moon. He has been re-born gradually re-grows to fullness.
Finally
the moon finishes its passing over the Sun with everything getting back to
normal.
The Moon has rebooted the Sun – given it fresh life. It is a major
fresh start for everyone.
What
is yours going to be this time? That depends on your astrological birth chart.
Whatever that is, I hope it is good for you.
Uh
oh it’s my birthday so there are some big changes coming up! Watch this space.
The
next total eclipse in August 2017.
