Hot Headed Learning

How do we learn?
How do we learn anatomy and physiology or the intricacies of aromatherapy chemistry for example?
Students new to learning often complain of having a hot head! ..well that's the neurons connecting. This is the answer......read and learn how to do it. I love this quote from an old book I found, it's so quaint but so true:

FROM: WHILLIS'S ELEMENTARY ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY 4TH EDITION (1957) - WRITTEN FOR STUDENTS AT GUY'S HOSPITAL
It is frequently the complaint of students that they cannot recall the names for things, a form of 'aphasia' which shows significantly high incidence amongst those ill provided in other directions. Intelligible conversation is impossible without recognisable terms; especially is this true of medical knowledge, where great numbers of individually named structures and processes must be considered in everyday discussion. Fortunately, a majority of anatomical terms are rational, appropriate and even self-explanatory to anyone possessed of modest education,
a little curiosity, and some perseverance.
This cannot be said of the names of many commonplace things, whose labels we learn in multitudes without great difficulty or complaint.
We do so by habit and familiarity, and herein lies the key
not merely to successful absorption of anatomical terminology but further to the firm acquisition of anatomical knowledge itself.
