I suppose you already know that there are four elements associated with the minor cards?
Fire, water, air and earth (usually shown as wands, cups, swords and disks).

Although many readers don't seem to know that.
They will talk about how you are thinking or what you are doing or having in respect to a cup card and so the mix goes on.

Fire cards are simply doing cards;
Water cards are simply feeling cards;
Air cards are simply communicative cards and
Earth cards are simply material cards.

 Although I agree that an imbalance in one element can have a knock on effect to the other processes, are other readers casting the net too widely in the hope that they may get something from guess work?

I have found that if you stay in the element, you can get to the real point of the read with much better results (opposed to a mish mash of phrases as a cold reading would do). That assumes the position of the card has a neutral meaning.

I do suggest that if you want to talk to the querent about all sorts, then discard three of the suits and just have a deck containing the major cards and one set of pips and courts.
